Hello Families!

Where has the time gone?! Only three months of school left and it is full of exciting activities and learning!

A note of Thanks

Thank you to all the parents and guardians who attended Parent Teacher Conferences. We saw many smiling faces during the event and feel this format worked well for everyone. Thank you for everyone’s feedback as we strive to meet everyone’s needs.

A huge thank you to School Council and the many parents who dropped off food and snacks for staff to enjoy during interviews. Your thoughtfulness and generosity were greatly appreciated.

A few Reminders

Spring weather in Calgary is always interesting and the mud puddles are growing around the school. We are working diligently to encourage students to stay out of the mud for many reasons – safety, student comfort, school cleanliness to name a few. Please chat with your children about avoiding the mud if possible.

On April 8 between 11:50 am -2:00 pm ,Calgary will experience a partial solar eclipse. As cool as this is, we will be asking students and staff to refrain from watching this phenomenon as we do not have appropriate eye protection. We will also be adjusting our lunch times so students and staff will be back in classes by 11:50 am.

Monday lunch time will be 11:15-11:50 amFor those student who go home for lunch, you can expect them a little earlier…and please send them back a little soonerJ

Please chat to your child about the danger to their eyes even if the sun is partially covered by the moon.

PATs

Alberta Education has announced thatGrade 6 English Language Arts and Literature (ELAL) and Mathematics provincial achievement tests will not be administered in the 2023/2024 school year. This applies to both English and French Immersion Program students. Science and Social Studies will be administered for this school year.

All Grade 9 PATs will be administered.

Option Selections

Mid April, students in grades 6, 7 and 8 will select their options for next year. Student interest, available staff and resources dictate our option offerings. We will send a message home when the online site is ready and you can support your child in their options selections for next year.

Next Year’s Intentions

We are asking for your support as we plan for next year. Please let us know if your family will not be returning to Valley Creek next fall by emailing your child’s teacher and/or the main office atvalleycreek@cbe.ab.ca by mid-April. It is important to know how many students we should anticipate so we are able to program and timetable effectively.
