April Message

Hello Valley Creek Families,

Can you believe we have only two months of school left? The energy in the building is growing as students look ahead to the end of the school year with excitement.

Guest Teacher in the French Language Program

We are pleased to welcome Mme. Mylaine Ndefo to Valley Creek for the month of May. Mme. Mylaine Ndefo is a new teacher with the CBE and is part of a pilot mentorship project that supports incoming teachers. During her time with us, she will be working alongside classroom teachers and supporting students in their learning.

Classroom Complexity Team

As shared in the March message, our school received funding from the Government of Alberta to establish a Classroom Complexity Team. This team includes one teacher and two educational assistants.

Ms. Reinhardt has accepted the teacher position through to the end of the school year. Ms. Keith has joined the Valley Creek team and will be covering Ms. Reinhardt’s previous class. In addition, three educational assistants are now supporting the work led by Ms. Reinhardt.

The focus of this support is primarily for Grade 5 and 6 students, with an emphasis on literacy and numeracy. Students will receive support through small, targeted groups as well as one-on-one assistance within the classroom.

We are pleased to share that this funding will continue into next school year.

SWAT Connection Week

Last week was an amazing celebration of connection and community. Our SWAT students and teacher advisors have spent many months planning activities for Connection Week, with a strong focus on fostering intentional relationships and an inclusive school culture.

Each month, the SWAT team shared activities for classrooms to complete—sometimes with a buddy class. These activities were tied to virtues that promote positive energy, actions, and behaviours.

The culminating activities took place last week, and when speaking with students, many shared that this was a highlight of their school year—each with a different favourite activity.

Thank you to our School Council for their generous financial support and for volunteering at the snack shop. Your involvement and commitment helped make this week a success.

School Council Meeting

We invite families to join us in the Learning Commons on May 19 at 6:30 p.m. Laura Hack, School Trustee, will be joining us to respond to questions that have been submitted through School Council.

Provincial Achievement Tests

A reminder that Grade 6 and Grade 9 students will be writing their Provincial Achievement Tests later in May and June. Please visit the Valley Creek website for the most up-to-date testing schedule.

School Fees

We encourage families to regularly review their child’s school fees through their MyCBE account. Fees are updated throughout the year, and checking periodically helps avoid surprises.
