January Message
Hello Valley Creek Families,
At Valley Creek, we continue to grow as a community where every student feels cared for, respected, and connected. As we move through January, the halls are alive with energy. Field trips, clubs, and athletics are giving students many opportunities to get involved, build relationships, and feel a strong sense of belonging within our school.
One of the newest additions to the front office has sparked incredible curiosity and shared eggcitement—10 eggs resting in our incubator. Students frequently gather around, noses pressed to the glass, watching closely for any signs of change.

Student Leadership- Encouraging Respect, Voice and Community
Survey data has shown us that student engagement has decreased, and we want to ensure every student feels connected, respected, and involved. This led to our School Development Plan goal:
Student achievement will improve through engagement in responsive learning cycles and actionable achievement feedback.
To honour student voice and strengthen our caring community, we launched the Charger Connection Council (CCC).
Two representatives from each grade will be selected through a letter of interest. Meetings are on the first Friday of each month, with additional meetings as needed.
Objectives of the Charger Connection Council
- Build community
- Promote volunteering
- Support goal setting
- Foster a positive school culture
- Empower students as leaders
- Strengthening relationships
- Play an active role in driving positive change
- Develop problem-solving skills
- Build skills for active, engaged citizenship
We look forward to sharing highlights from CCC meetings in future updates.
SWAT (Student Well-being Action Team)-Supporting Belonging and Well-being
Now in its second year, our SWAT group continues to focus on improving student well‑being at Valley Creek.
In December, eight students and two teachers attended the Middle School Student Well‑Being Symposium. Using school data, they identified areas of need and developed an action plan to strengthen connection, belonging, safety, and inclusion.
Throughout the year, SWAT will be implementing activities aimed at enhancing students’ overall sense of community and well‑being.
Thank you for your continued support in all that we do at Valley Creek. We are grateful for the partnership we share with our families.
