March Message

Welcome to April and spring!

The staff would like to extend a very big thank you for your generosity in providing dinner during conferences. Having the opportunity to pause briefly and enjoy a prepared meal was very much appreciated.

E-Sports

School Council generously donated the equipment for the ESports club. A team was formed, and eight students attended a tournament where they competed against other junior high and middle schools. Our team performed well, learned a great deal, and hopes to attend another tournament in the near future.

Volleyball

A round of applause to the students and staff involved in our four volleyball teams. Congratulations on your amazing teamwork and for representing our school in such a positive way.

  • Junior boys: Won the “A” final
  • Junior girls: 5th place finish
  • Senior boys: Finished 2nd
  • Senior girls: Division champions

Quebec Trip

Mr. Senft is exploring the possibility of a student trip to Quebec next April. Please watch your email for a letter that will share available details and gauge interest. This trip will be available to students who will be in Grades 8 and 9 next year.

Intervention Groups

This year, teachers administered diagnostic assessments to help identify students’ learning needs. Students who require specific supports have been identified and are working in small groups to receive intentional instruction. This work is supported by classroom teachers and our support staff.

Complexity Team

As you may be aware, the Government of Alberta has deployed funding for a complexity team—consisting of one teacher and two educational assistants—to schools demonstrating complex learning needs. Our school is one of 118 selected to receive this support. The team will be with us for the remainder of this year and next year. We are currently in the early stages of planning and implementation, with more updates to come next month.

Security Cameras

Security cameras will be installed in the building early next fall. Work will begin in the next few weeks and will take place after school hours. CBE uses video surveillance technology when it enhances the safety of students and staff, or helps deter damage to school property and assets.
