Valley Creek School Principal’s Monthly Message

Dear Valley Creek Families,

I hope this message finds you well. It has been a wonderful start to the school year, with students settling into their new classrooms, connecting with their teachers, and building a sense of belonging. We’ve seen so many positive moments, from students eagerly embracing new challenges to families supporting one another. Together, we are creating a community where everyone feels valued, respected, and part of something bigger.

Terry Fox Run

One of the first events to bring our community together was the Terry Fox Run. It was inspiring to see our students not only participate but also lead by example as they partnered with their buddy classes from Hidden Valley. Watching our older students mentor the younger ones was truly heartwarming. This event was a beautiful reminder of the power of kindness, leadership, and collaboration.

Thanks to the generous support of our Valley Creek families, we surpassed our fundraising goal by raising an impressive $1,236 for the Terry Fox Foundation. This accomplishment reflects the spirit of caring and community that defines our school. Well done, everyone!

Athletics

Our students have been busy on the sports field, embracing opportunities to get involved and work together. These activities help foster a sense of community, teamwork, and personal growth, all while developing a healthy respect for each other.

·         Cross Country: Congratulations to our runners who finished the season strong! A huge thank you to coaches Ms. Gaw, Ms. Chan, Ms. Millard, and Ms. Halliday-Clark for their dedication.

·         Basketball: Our four basketball teams are already up and running, with games against schools in our division starting soon. We appreciate the hard work of our coaches—Ms. Smiley, Ms. Gaw, Mr. Marjoram, Ms. Hunt, and Mr. Morck—for guiding our students through their practices and games.

·         Soccer: Our two soccer teams are representing Valley Creek with great effort and sportsmanship. While the girls’ team has faced some early challenges, they’ve shown tremendous growth in teamwork, spirit, and inclusion. We are so proud of their positive attitude and determination. The boys' soccer team has come off to a good start, losing by only 1 goal to a strong Arbour Lake team. They then proceeded to win their next game 7-2. There is a lot of talent on the team, and we are still learning to function as a cohesive unit, but the boys are passionate and eager to improve. You can really see the love they have for the game, and it shows every time they touch the field.

A special thank you to coaches Ms. Rumney, Mr. Bender, Mr. Sharma, and Mr. Charoensuk.

·         Basketball Club: For students in grades 5 and 6 who are not yet able to participate in interschool sports, Ms. Mulji is running a morning basketball club. We appreciate her dedication to providing all students with an opportunity to be involved.

Truth and Reconciliation Commitment

At Valley Creek, we are committed to furthering our understanding of Indigenous Peoples through thoughtful and meaningful actions. As part of our ongoing Truth and Reconciliation efforts, students and staff were invited to create personal calls to action, reflecting how we can each contribute to this important journey. These personal pledges are displayed on orange ribbons and can be seen along the school fence. I encourage you to stop by and read the inspiring commitments made by our community members.

Volunteers Needed

As we plan our field trips for the year, we need parent volunteers to help ensure their success. If you are interested in volunteering, please ensure that you have completed the police clearance process and the annual volunteer form. If you haven't yet started the clearance process, please do so as soon as possible to avoid any delays, as they can take time to complete.

Meet the Teacher Night

Thank you to all the families who attended our Meet the Teacher evening. The energy and enthusiasm in the air were truly infectious as students proudly showed their families around the school. If you weren’t able to connect with your child’s teacher, please don’t hesitate to reach out to schedule a time to talk. Contact information for all teachers is available on our Valley Creek School website
