Dear Valley Creek Families,
Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful summer and had the opportunity to enjoy time with family and friends. As we begin the 2026-27 school year, our staff is excited to welcome both returning and new students to Valley Creek. We are looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, growth, connection, and success.
As we prepare for the first weeks of school, we would like to share a few important reminders and updates.
September Events
September is always a busy and exciting month as we establish routines and build our school community. Please watch for additional information about the following upcoming events:
· School Photo Day: September 9
· School Council Meeting: September 15
· Meet the Teacher Evening: September 17, 5:00-6:30 p.m.
· Terry Fox Activities: September 18
· Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation learning opportunities
· Grade 9 Field Trip: September 28
Athletics have also begun, and updates will be shared through Ms. Hunt's weekly emails. Additional details and dates will be communicated by email and through weekly classroom updates from your child's teacher. Please visit the school website regularly for calendar updates and events throughout the year.
Student Drop off Procedures
To help keep all students safe, please do not drive into the school parking lot to drop off students. Numerous buses enter and exit the parking lot throughout the day, and it becomes very busy before and after school. Our parking lot is reserved for staff and school operations.
We ask families to use the street adjacent to the school for drop-off and encourage students to walk safely to the school entrance.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone.
Student Support Contacts
If your child requires support during the school year, please contact their classroom teacher first, as teachers work most closely with students throughout the day.
Our Assistant Principals are also available to help:
- Ms. LaBarbera will support students with surnames beginning with A-L
- Ms. Buchan will support students with surnames beginning with M-Z
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns.
Reporting Student Absences
If your child is absent, please call our attendance line or email:
Email: VCAttendance@cbe.ab.ca
403-777-7995 and press #1
Reporting absences promptly helps us ensure student safety and accurate attendance records.
Weekly Classroom Updates
Beginning this fall, teachers will send home a weekly update outlining the learning and activities that took place in class throughout the week. These updates are intended to help families stay informed about classroom learning and upcoming expectations.
If you do not receive these emails, please ensure that you have opted in to receive communications from the Calgary Board of Education by visiting the following link:
Access Your MyCBE Account
We strongly encourage all families to ensure they have access to their MyCBE account. Through MyCBE, families can:
- View academic information
- Monitor attendance
- Register for transportation
- Register for noon supervision
- Book parent-teacher conferences
- Pay school fees

Additional Staff Supporting Student Success
This fall, the CBE has hired hundreds of teachers, education assistants and other school staff to support student learning. These positions have been funded by the Government of Alberta with the intention of addressing classroom complexity and class sizes.
